Homebuyer Tax Extension Still Pending

HOMEBUYER TAX CREDIT EXTENSION STILL MAKING ITS WAY THROUGH CONGRESS

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) has informed us that Senate leaders of both parties, key Senate Finance Committee members (including Chairman Baucus) and staff, and tax credit sponsors Senators Dodd, Lieberman, and Isakson have agreed on extending and expanding the housing tax credit.

This provides much-needed momentum for an extension and expansion of the tax credit.

However, there is no agreement on how to attach this tax credit to the pending Unemployment Insurance bill. Senate leaders also are considering whether to offer the tax credit agreement on another bill or whether to bring the agreement to the Senate floor and vote upon it as a separate, stand alone bill.

If the Senate passes the measure, the tax credit also must go to the House of Representatives for consideration.

The Montana Association of REALTORS® and NAR urge you to keep responding to the Call For Action by emailing and calling our Members of Congress to support the tax credit extension.

You also can reach the Montana Members of Congress at:

Senator Max Baucus - (202) 224-2651
Senator Jon Tester - (202) 224-2644
Representative Dennis Rehberg - (202) 225-5687
